According to authorities, Rincon was arrested in 2011 after entering the United States for refuge from rivals within the same organization and his enemies the Zetas.

The jury ruled Rincon guilty after nearly five hours of deliberation and after more than a week of testimony.

The trial judge, Hilda Tagle, denied a defense motion to dismiss the case, arguing the lack of direct evidence linking his client to the approximately two tons of marijuana that he and his men crossed each month under the supposed area under his control.

Rincon, who served as chief for the Gulf Cartel in Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, was arrested by Border Patrol agents on October 26, 2011 when he and his partner Jose Luis Zuniga crossed the border to seek refuge in the United States.

According to authorities, Rincon was one of the closest and most loyal men to Jorge Eduardo “El Coss” Costilla Sanchez, who was arrested last week in Mexico.
