US Warning San Diego Police of potential attacks by Tijuana Cartel

US Warning San Diego Police of potential attacks by Tijuana Cartel

The Police Department San Diego, California, analyzed the methods used by the Arellano Felix organization to attack and ambush security forces operating in the border city.

Faced with a possible use of similar tactics on the north side of the border against U.S. officials, the agency launched a series of preventive measures that include, among others, keep the front seat clear to crouch or walk out the door to an armed attack and use the drive on which you travel as an offensive weapon.

The report, Tijuana Cartel Tactics: An Analysis of Ambush Attacks on Law Enforcement Tijuana (Tijuana Cartel Tactics: An Analysis of ambushes against security forces in Tijuana), leaked a few days ago by Anonymous hacker organization, reveals that since November 2010, the Coordination Center of San Diego Police officers warned the collaboration of local gangs that operated as “shock troops” for the Arellano Felix organization.

“An investigation by the Police Department San Diego (SDPD) yielded credible information that drug trafficking organizations in Mexico, in collaboration with San Diego street gangs are using sophisticated techniques against surveillance and are willing to carry out armed attacks to protect their drug shipments, “says the document.

The analysis ensures that the cartels have demonstrated complex tactics, such as varying the speed of the vehicles used in ambushes, coordinate changes in the lanes and rotate units traveling in a convoy to identify shipments.

Most of these attacks, indicated in the report, reflected a high level of training and planning, and usually were made in actions ranging from a vehicle to convoys of six units.

The preferred locations for cartels such attacks are broad avenues, with at least two lanes in each direction, because they allow attackers to remove the motorcade vehicles to adopt different roles during the ambush, as blocking the streets, restricting the movement of the lens and “clean” pre-established escape routes.

The types of ambushes

According to the San Diego Police there are three methods commonly used to ambush the Tijuana cartel against the authorities of that city: the “blind spot”, “stalking” and “complex ambush mobile?”

The three methods, according to the report, are designed to take victims by surprise, limit your mobility and attack with overwhelming fire.

For the type of “blind spot” is used a tactic of vehicle against vehicle. Criminals are close to the victim’s car by the driver’s side, standing in the “blind spot” for multiple shooters shoot at the unit in order to immobilize it.

Generally, once the vehicle stopped is to descend quickly “coup de grace”.

In the “pending” attack the cartel members are static in a certain position just before the arrival of the victim or victims.

Such tactics also requires surveillance and intelligence gathering to become familiar with the routes, key points and escape routes.

In addition, attackers need to know where and when the security features are at a specific point.

The main victims of this attack are the officials with fixed patrol routes.

In many cases the information to carry out these cartel ambushes is provided by the cops.

Other methods used are the false emergency calls to the number 066.

The last method is the “complex ambush mobile.”

For this, traffickers used small convoys deployed to fire from strategic positions and create a “death zone” with automatic weapons fire from flanks that are intercepted, killing whoever is in the middle.

Additionally, we use the vehicles of the vanguard and rear of the caravan to block escape routes, which are then, abandoned them in neighboring areas.
