LAREDO, Customs and Border AGENTS intercepted 900 rounds of Munitions!

Customs and Border Protection Agents – (CBP) at the Laredo port of entry intercepted nearly 900  rounds of munitions used for high power rifles, before they could be illegally exported to Mexico.

There was the seizure of ammunition on Sunday, February 12, 2012 by officers and agents in the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge, after a vehicle inspection toward the Mexican border in a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, model 2002.

Federal officials asked the driver if they were carrying anything illegal or more than $ 10,000 in cash, and after receiving a negative response the driver acted nervous and was identified as a man, 53 years old from the United States who was accompanied by a woman, 48, also an American citizen, both from Colleyville, Texas.

In a secondary inspection of the truck by CBP officers discovered 14 packages of munitions containing 858 rounds of ammunition and 17 magazines for ammunition in the truck.

The truck, ammunition and magazines, were seized by federal agents,  the driver and passenger were arrested and turned over to the department of U.S. immigration and customs agents and research (ICE-HSI) for further investigation.

“CBP is safeguarding our nation’s borders against terror and tyranny of crime and violence, by scoring another major seizure for our officials,” said Sidney K. Aki, Director of CBP ports, Laredo.

“Following a recent seizure of weapons in the past days, agents found more rounds of ammunition and confiscated them from traffickers. We are not only ensuring the security of our own country in Mexico, but we are taking advantage of seizures of illegal weapons and ammunition on international bridges, “he added.
