Smuggling used car batteries into Juarez

A shipment of 27 thousand 500 kilos of batteries used for automobiles and 900 thousand kilos of contaminated scrap bronze, was secured by the Federal Environmental Protection (Profepa) and the local Customs Border.

The suspect illegally tried to transport into the country’s fiscal POE kilometer 72 of the Juarez-Chihuahua highway, reports said.

A unit announced today that the vehicle that was moving the cargo was detained at customs for inspection and documentation review. Inspectors found inconsistencies both in the information recorded on paper and in what the driver said.

According to the manifesto delivery, shipping and receiving of hazardous waste shipment was bound for a storage facility located in the state of Puebla. However, according to the driver, who was not identified by the agency, was take to Guadalajara, Jalisco.

Another inconsistency was detected that the number of authorization for the transfer does not exist, plus it was confirmed that the vehicle, whose registration was not provided, was not authorized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), but the box trailer in which they moved, was reported to have official documents but omitted the date of insurance and name of the company that owns the vehicle.
